Robert M Clarke SR. was my great Great Grand Father. To see a name so similar to mine on the slave sale receipt was kind of eerie as my name is Trevina and she was Lavenia. To see how times have changed and two of my daughter's are married to men of "negro" descent ( they are 1/4th black) My grand children are 1/8th black and they would of just been a commodity in that time not so long ago. It does go to show that even ex-slave owners descendants embrace the thought of us all being free. It is very important that we document slave owners such as Clarke in relation to slave history research--- if only to let others know of the type of person a slave owner was. Yes, he probably appeared normal to his people, but we know the truth. He engaged in the selling of human beings who could be anyone of our ancestors. Thank you for remembering those people who are but names on a slave owner's receipt.
